Nestopia 1.4.1
Nestopia is a Nintendo NES emulator for Mac OS X. Nestopia is by far the most compatible of any NES emulator for Mac OS X. Using cycle-exact emulation, it is able to run titles that rely on precise timing, and which therefore break under other emulators. It supports five extra sound chips and an astonishing 143 mappers. This accurate emulation comes at a cost; Nestopia requires an 800MHz machine for full speed; but if you have one, this the best available NES emulation for Mac.
Nestopia was initially developed for Windows by Martin Freij. The original sources may be downloaded from the Nestopia home page. The toolkit used to develop the Macintosh port, including the bridge code to link it to Nestopia, will be available in the longer term from my developer pages. Certain portions are available now, and more will be added in the future. Further information is also available from the enclosed Read Me file.

Version 1.4.1:
• Updated to shell version 2.3. See "About the Shell" for changes.

Universal Binary (PPC/Intel)
• Mac OS X 10.4 or higher
• For best performance, a Quartz Extreme compatible AGP video card is required.

Actually, this is waaaay better than RockNES. NEStopia runs faster, the game genie actually works, and it doesn't slow down while I have other things open. Also, it has rewinds and fast forwards which I find are really useful. |

It an alright sim, a bit confusing on the frost and defrost states, and you need 900mhrz or more to run smoothly, has a tendency to crash when game geni codes are enterd, but cant beat the compatability

I don't get why a system thats over 20 years old needs computers this fast to run. I mean why does it take so much power to play these simple games? |

Since v4.0, RockNES has been a massive performance hog that needs a really powerful Mac to run well.
Nestopia remains the only exact cycle capable NES emulator that runs well on sub 1 ghz Macs.
As far as I can tell, Nestopia is just as compatible and feature rich as RockNES 4.0, and runs better to boot. Reccomended. |

No offence to the programmer, but this emulator is by far the worst NES emulator for OSX. It's quality is falsly advertized - download RockNes if you want an emulator that actually works. |
